I have carried out research on cities and architectures shaped in the 19th -20th centuries in East Asia mostly based on fieldwork for over twenty years. Through my studies and travels, I realized that the world is a big place and try to deliver this message to the students who take my courses and join language cafes or global seminars. In the age that AI has advanced into various areas, we must go back to think more about the abilities and creativities of human being and “what you can do as an individual?” I look forward to studying with you all at Gunma University.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

For many people, learning a new language may seem difficult, especially in a country where that langauge is not used every day. I believe, however, that ALL people, young and old, have the ability to learn foreign languages. If you are focused and make a thoughtful effort each week, you will be successful and have a lot of fun following the course and working together with classmates. Learning a new language opens your eyes to the larger world, allows you to meet new and interesting people, and empowers you to be participant in the international community.

Acquiring additional languages is not easy at all. It is a long journey, which can sometimes make it difficult to stay motivated. Rather than rushing, try to enjoy the language acquisition process and gradually improve your language skills. I will also keep learning together with you!

I really hope you get the chance to experience learning beyond borders while you're at university. Even if it's just for a short time, don’t hesitate to take the leap and go abroad if you have the chance! If traveling isn’t an option, try having a real, heartfelt conversation with international students on campus. It could turn into a life-changing experience for you!
